Welcome!

The purpose of this blog will be to help users/readers become more well versed in the world of competitive gaming and eSports.  This industry is fast paced and constantly evolving, with new teams popping up here and there as well as new platforms for competition, among many other factors. I have little experience in journalism, most of which comes from personal social media accounts, so this will be a learning experience for everyone involved.  I myself hope to cover more and more in the world of gaming, and eventually be a well-known eSports reporter as it rises in popularity.  My writing will hopefully improve over the course of this blog, specifically in terms of raw date to support my fluffy opinion pieces, but for now I'm excited to share my passion with the internet.  My biggest fear is my lack of consistency in terms of posting, so hopefully I can keep up a rhythm and get myself into a habit.

The primary games I hope to cover in this blog will be Overwatch, League of Legends, and Counter Strike; Global Offensive (otherwise referred to as CS;GO).  Through research and coverage of these games, I hope to improve my own skills and help others improve their skills, so we all may improve our proficiency in these games.   The secondary purpose of this blog will be to provide resources and links to local gaming tournaments and to keep an eye out for any entry level events that could be used to get a jump start on a gaming career, and to keep tabs on up and coming stars in the field.  These games change so fast and so frequently that the competitive scene feels different every season.

The future of gaming is almost impossible to predict, with new games coming out every year and different competitive scenes appearing all over the place because of it.  The eSports industry is one of the fastest growing industries we’ve seen in a long time, in part due to its accessibility.  Some of these games even host global tournaments, where teams from across the world come together to compete to be the best (here is a game from the 2019 finals of League of Legends world championships https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VjyIsaUGEI).  What’s more, some of the bigger competitive gaming scenes have smaller tournaments built in to their main competitive seasons.  Currently, the Overwatch League (OWL for short) is nearing the end of their May Melee tournament in North America (the most recent game can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJCU3nR5j5E).

The last aspect I hope to keep in focus with this blog is the updates and changes that can (and will) affect the meta of each game’s competitive season.  All the games listed are constantly being improved upon and expanded by their respective development teams, and no two seasons are alike.  Characters in the games are constantly being adjusted (referred to as nerfed when weakened or buffed when given an advantage) to keep the competitive scene fluid and dynamic.  Sometimes these changes go under the radar, and often the changes take some time to actually be implemented into the competitive scene.  I hope to keep readers up to date on the latest patches actually affecting the competitive scenes.
